Leupold PRW2 Cross-Slot Scope Base – 34mm, High, Black
Leupold has been machining scope mounting hardware in Oregon since long before most of the current market existed, and their ring and base systems are the reference other makers get compared against. The base is the foundation of a scope mounting system — it bolts to the receiver and gives the rings something square and solid to clamp to. Get this part wrong and nothing above it can be right.
It fits both Picatinny and Weaver rails, which covers nearly everything with a cross-slot rail on top. Sized for a 34mm tube, typical of long-range scopes where maximum elevation travel matters more than weight. High rings give clearance for large objective bells, 50mm and up, or for a rifle with a tall comb. The trade is a higher sight line over the bore. Steel construction adds weight but resists deformation under clamping force better than aluminum, which is why it stays popular on hard-kicking rifles.
