    Good rifle, terrible magazines

Posted by Dwight Leiva Marin on Oct 5th 2024

I will keep this review honest and transparent. The rifle is an absolute deal and the capability of switching out the stock is definitely great. First day at the range I noticed my rounds were not cycling properly. They kept feeding too low and I figured I needed to break the rifle in so I spent 1 hour sending the bolt hom. Took it to another range, same ammo and then took different ammo to test if that was the issue. My problem was persistent, the range coach looked at my rifle and noticed the magazines were feeding too low. I went home and bought two ruger magazines for this rifle from eBay, same model mag. Same issue kept happening with my dummy rounds and eventually bought more dummy rounds to see if it was all in my head. After dealing with various gunsmiths it was concluded the magazines were the issue but they were able to fix my problem and stated that “the magazine was adjusted”. This was my last straw, I should not have to adjust any magazine. The gun should be ready to go out the box, and because of the magazines, this was not true. (Several others on Reddit seemed to have the same issue and it was agreed that the mags for gen 1 rifle like this one were absolute trash) I purchased a Magpul stock the Hunter 700L one and 5 round pmags with a whole new set of dummy rounds (the last set of dummy rounds were so badly worn out because of them getting slammed into the chamber that the tips were flat). The second I ran my test, the rifle was absolutely flawless in feeding and ejecting. Ran this about 5-6 times with both new pmags and 5 dummy rounds each. Can’t wait to take it to the range again and try it now. Over all it shoots great at 100,300,500 yards and I would recommended the rifle, but if you can buy one that comes with metal mags or magpul stock, definitely go this route.
