The 14.5" barrel carries a permanently pinned and welded muzzle device, so the rifle measures over 16" and is not a short-barreled rifle.

About this rifle
The Daniel Defense M4A1 RIS II is the civilian version of the SOPMOD Block II carbine, and this run is a Davidson's exclusive finished in Deep Woods Green Cerakote. It is a semi-automatic 5.56 NATO rifle built on 7075-T6 aluminum upper and lower receivers with a 14.5" cold hammer forged, chrome-lined, M4-profile chrome moly vanadium barrel in 1:7 twist, a carbine-length gas system with a pinned low-profile gas block, and a Daniel Defense flash suppressor pinned and welded to the muzzle for a 16" legal length. The RIS II free-float quad rail is the 12.25" Picatinny rail adopted by SOCOM, with Santoprene rail panels. Daniel Defense's six-position buttstock and pistol grip are glass-filled polymer with soft-touch overmold, the trigger is mil-spec, the bolt carrier group is an MP-tested, chrome-lined M16 profile with a staked gas key, and the charging handle is the ambidextrous GRIP-N-RIP. Length is 31.5" collapsed to 34.75" extended at about 6.7 lbs.

Daniel Defense builds the M4A1 as a faithful rendition of the SOPMOD Block II rifle: a 14.5" cold hammer forged barrel with a permanently attached flash suppressor, the RIS II rail used by US Special Operations Command, a heavy tungsten buffer, and the company's own buttstock, grip and GRIP-N-RIP charging handle. The upper and lower receivers are mil-spec 7075-T6 aluminum with a flared magazine well, rear QD sling point and M4 feed ramps. The rifle ships in a full-latch impact plastic case with a cable lock and owner's manual.
