Sized for a 30mm tube, now the most common size on modern scopes because the larger tube allows more elevation travel. Medium height is the usual answer for a standard hunting scope — enough clearance for a typical 40mm to 44mm objective without raising the scope more than necessary. Steel construction adds weight but resists deformation under clamping force better than aluminum, which is why it stays popular on hard-kicking rifles.
