Rings do one thing: hold the scope exactly where you put it, shot after shot. Undersized or poorly machined rings are behind more mystery accuracy problems than most shooters realize.
Sized for a 1-inch tube, the traditional American standard still used across most hunting scopes. Medium height is the usual answer for a standard hunting scope — enough clearance for a typical 40mm to 44mm objective without raising the scope more than necessary. Steel construction adds weight but resists deformation under clamping force better than aluminum, which is why it stays popular on hard-kicking rifles.
