The gold reticle reads with more contrast than red in bright light and against busy backgrounds, without the premium that green usually carries. A 2 MOA dot is the precision choice. It covers two inches at 100 yards, so it doesn't hide a small target, and it's fine enough to shoot groups with rather than just point with.
The X3 generation brings a modernized 7075-T6 housing and a forward-facing light sensor that reads the light on your target. Solar Failsafe keeps the reticle alive off ambient light if the battery dies, and the side tray means a battery change doesn't cost you your zero.
