Leupold Standard Scope Base – 30mm, High, Black
Leupold has been machining scope mounting hardware in Oregon since long before most of the current market existed, and their ring and base systems are the reference other makers get compared against. The base is the foundation of a scope mounting system — it bolts to the receiver and gives the rings something square and solid to clamp to. Get this part wrong and nothing above it can be right.
It uses the Leupold base system, where the front ring rotates into a dovetail and the rear is windage-adjustable — a design that's been holding zero on hunting rifles for decades. Sized for a 30mm tube, now the most common size on modern scopes because the larger tube allows more elevation travel. High rings give clearance for large objective bells, 50mm and up, or for a rifle with a tall comb. The trade is a higher sight line over the bore. Steel construction adds weight but resists deformation under clamping force better than aluminum, which is why it stays popular on hard-kicking rifles.
