Leupold has been machining scope mounting hardware in Oregon since long before most of the current market existed, and their ring and base systems are the reference other makers get compared against. Scope bases mount directly to the receiver and set the platform everything else references. Fitment is the whole question: the right base for your exact action, or none of it works.
It uses the Leupold base system, where the front ring rotates into a dovetail and the rear is windage-adjustable — a design that's been holding zero on hunting rifles for decades. Sized for a 30mm tube, now the most common size on modern scopes because the larger tube allows more elevation travel. Low rings sit the scope as close to the bore as the objective allows, which gives the most natural cheek weld and the least holdover error at close range. Make sure your objective bell clears the barrel. Steel construction adds weight but resists deformation under clamping force better than aluminum, which is why it stays popular on hard-kicking rifles.
